Alexis is a Master of Clinical Social Work (MSW) therapist and is actively pursuing her licensure (LCSW). She obtained her Bachelor of Social Work and her MSW degree from Florida State University.
Alexis has over seven years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. In 2019, Alexis became a certified Trust-Based Relational Intervention® Practitioner (TBRI®) through Texas Christian University. She has been certified in Child-Centered Play Therapy with Neurorelational Emphasis (CCPT-NE) through the Playstrong Institute, certified in Child Welfare Practice through Florida State University, and is finishing her certification in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
Alexis has experience working in the dependency system in a position with the Special Needs Adoption Unit. She has worked at a group home in Bolivia with children aged 5-23 years and was responsible for the training, implementation, and daily intervention of the home’s trauma care program. Alexis has also worked in a private practice setting, providing outpatient counseling services to women, families, parents, adolescents, and children. Her areas of expertise are Trauma, Foster Care/Adoption, Attachment and Bonding, Child Abuse/Neglect, Depression, Anxiety, Behavioral Issues, Anger and Aggression, and Family Conflicts.
Alexis specializes in coping methods, de-escalations, identifying stress triggers, and working with children and their support systems in both the prevention and the processing of trauma or stress. She is dedicated to educating others on how trauma/stress impacts the brain, development, and attachment. Alexis is passionate about creating and implementing trauma-informed interventions to assist individuals in growing, learning new skills, and meeting the goals they create for themselves. Alexis combines Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Art, Child-Centered Play (CCPT-NE), and TBRI® therapeutic interventions to work with her clients.
Alexis is currently under the supervision of Chelsea Harris MS, ATR-BC, LPC, CPCS.
