Jessica is a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) and Registered Art Therapist. She is currently working under the supervision of Erin Holcomb, LPC, CPCS. Jessica received her Master of Science degree in Art Therapy from Florida State University and her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Art from Florida State University. Jessica has worked in a variety of clinical settings including Centerstone’s intensive in-home program, a child advocacy center, pediatric unit of a hospital, non-profit centers, and in elementary, middle, and high schools. Most recently, Jessica worked within Cobb County schools providing individual and family therapy services. She worked with the families, social workers, teachers, and school counselors, to best serve the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of her clients. Jessica has found that with open communication between parents, schools, and the child more insight is gained, needs are quickly addressed, and a child can thrive in both their home and school environments.
Jessica has over ten years of experience working with children and families and has provided therapy to all ages. Jessica feels it is both a joy and a privilege each time she develops a trusting relationship with a child and can provide a safe space for change to occur. Her experiences include helping children and teens with anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, anger management, self-esteem issues, trauma, and bereavement. She has additional training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) and crisis intervention training. In session, she primarily utilizes both a Client-Centered and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach while often incorporating art therapy and creative interventions.
Jessica believes creativity is an essential part of growth and thus an important part of the therapy process. She believes using art in session provides a child with a non-verbal and developmentally-appropriate method to communicate and process difficult emotions and life circumstances. It can also be a way to cultivate self-worth, improve focus, and practice mindfulness techniques. Jessica is passionate about educating and empowering her clients so they are able to take the skills gained in session and effectively cope with all of life’s stressors. When she is not in session, Jessica can be found with her husband and two dogs, hiking, traveling, taking pictures, and cheering on her Seminoles.
