Nicole Dieguez Sheehan
Nicole is a Registered Art Therapist (ATR) who worked as an EBD Clinician/Art
Therapist for Miami-Dade Public Schools since graduating with her Master’s in Art Therapy from Florida State University in August 2016. She is currently working on her dissertation for a PhD in Special Education from Barry University. Nicole is also applying for licensure as a counselor through state endorsement.
While working with Miami-Dade Public Schools, Nicole gained experience working with diverse clients and families. Nicole sought to effectively help children and adolescents work towards their social and emotional goals. Through her clinical work, Nicole emphasized building and maintaining rapport in order to help her clients gain significant progress through communication, trust, and engagement.
Nicole specialized in working with children and teens with Emotional/Behavioral
Disabilities, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Disabilities (IND), and anxiety. Nicole has experience with children and teens who want to improve their coping skills, social skills, emotional regulation, impulse control, anxiety, and anger management. Nicole utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as well as behavioral techniques, including art therapy directives and counseling activities, to help her clients reach their social and emotional goals. In addition to an emphasis on rapport, trust, and communication, Nicole can help clients acquire and practice appropriate interpersonal and intrapersonal skills through her positive rapport and engaging directives. Nicole is fluent in English and Spanish.
