Silvana obtained her Master of Education with a Major in Professional Counseling from the University of West Georgia and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is a culturally competent counselor with extensive experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Silvana is a bilingual native Spanish speaker from Argentina who works with clients with different levels of English proficiency. Silvana believes that language has the power to transport the speaker to a different place and clients use language switching or code-switching to express certain emotions, and recall painful memories.
Silvana is an associate counselor (LAPC) and is under the supervision of Chelsea Harris, LPC, ATR-BC, CPCS. Silvana’s clinical experience includes working with preadolescents and adolescents in individual and group settings supporting their academic and social emotional needs.
Silvana’s theoretical approach is rooted in Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Expressive Therapy which includes music and movement. Silvana delivers evidence-based cognitive and behavioral interventions to individuals who experience difficulties with anxiety, anger, behavioral issues, self-worth, self-efficacy, stress, and interpersonal skills..
Because we have a strong tendency to ignore what goes well in life and to selectively focus on what might go wrong, Silvana believes that we must continuously develop a more optimistic outlook, which requires us to intentionally focus our attention on positive experiences while reframing our negative/distorted thoughts. An important step in Silvana’s intervention is to assist children in growing their self-esteem by identifying their strengths and weaknesses and creating SMART goals. Setting goals help children accomplish what they desire out of life.
