Sonya Freeman-Moss


Sonya received her Bachelors of Arts in Theatre with a concentration in Musical Theatre from Berry College in Rome, GA.  She then began leading theater groups with Camp KidJam, focusing on enhancing relationships, developing character, team building, and gaining problem-solving strategies.  During this time, Sonya became passionate about helping children succeed socially and emotionally and then returned to school to obtain her Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health from Mercer University.  She received extensive training facilitating social skills groups from Beyond Words Center in Atlanta and has experience working with individuals in a community-based counseling setting.  

Sonya is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and often incorporates art, play and drama into therapy sessions.  She believes in the healing effects that creative expression brings and desires to assist clients in reaching self-awareness by finding and exploring their own creativity.  She incorporates her drama techniques to drive character-building and autonomy.  She incorporates play therapy, sand tray, visual and theatrical arts into sessions while also utilizing Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral and person-centered Adlerian Therapies.  Sonya has experience working with children, teens, and adults who struggle with a variety of concerns and diagnosis, such as but not limited to: behavior management, social skills deficits, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, self-harm, coping with life's challenges, and neurodevelopmental disorders including ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder.  Sonya is a member of the American Counseling Association and the Chi Sigma Iota, the international honor society for counselors.  When not working, she likes to do DIY projects, crochet, read, and watch superhero movies.
