Parent-Teacher conferences are a great way to gain insight about your child’s social interactions within the school setting. When you meet with your child’s elementary school teacher, consider asking these questions (if they are applicable to your child):
[endif]As it relates to interacting with peers, what would you say are some of my child’s strengths?
What are his/her weaknesses or areas to improve upon?
How well does he/she interact with peers during less-structured time (such as lunch, recess, or P.E.)?
Have you noticed what my child does at recess or who he/she plays with?
Are there any specific students that he/she plays with the most?
How often is he/she having conflict with peers in class?
When he/she gets angry, what does he/she do?
Can you give me some examples of positive or negative interaction with peers?
Does he/she get stuck on assignments in class? If so, what seems to help?
If my child needs a break to calm himself/herself down, is he/she allowed to do this in the classroom? What do you think is the best way for my child to regulate himself within your classroom setting?
How well does my child follow your directions?
What can we do at home to support you and to work as a team together?
